Influenza A & B viral swab

Request form
FLU requests can be found on ICE. Include relevant clinical information, travel history as well as date of onset on the request form. Nose and throat swabs are required to perform PCR tests and ITU patients should also have a sputum or bronchial secretion sample to accompany the swabs.
Test information
Influenza A&B (including swineflu) testing is a PCR based test for inpatients.
Pre-analytical
Samples should be delivered to the laboratory as soon as possible. If there is a delay, samples should be refrigerated. For more information on how and when to take the sample; please refer to the guide provided by infection control following the link provided.
