Blood sample can be collected at any time for screening purposes. Bacterial contamination of the specimen should be avoided. 
The cobas HIV-1 test is for use with PLASMA specimens ONLY 
Blood should be collected in vacutainer PPT Plasma Preparation Tubes using EDTA as the anticoagulant.
Special requirements
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS TO MINIMISE DETERIORATION 
Whole blood collected in PPT Plasma Preparation Tubes using EDTA as the 
anticoagulant may be stored and/or transported for up to 24 hours at 2°C to 25°C 
prior to plasma preparation and subsequent testing without any loss of RNA 
Plasma samples may be stored in secondary tubes for up to 24 hours at 2°C to 
25°C, up to 72 hours at 2°C to 8°C
